Visit of Prince Charles

On the 23rd October, Prince Charles visited Middleton with the opening of the new public use building at Middleton Cattle Mart a main purpose of the visit. He visited a number of businesses in the Village, including Macfarlanes Family Buthers, J Raine and Sons, and UTASS. He was greeted by hundreds of people and school children on the street, each eager to shake the hand, or have a brief word with Prince. He then proceeded to meet Farmers of the Dale at the Mart, with lunch being provided at the new buildings kitchen facilities. A visit to UTASS was always going to be on the agenda, as HRH has in the past been a great admirer of UTASS, and with the Princes Countryside Fund contributing to the work of UTASS, he is clearly still very pleased with the excellent work UTASS do.

Teesdale Business Awards, 2013

On Thursday 17th October, Volunteers of the Tourist Information Centre attended local Business Awards at the Morritt Arms Hotel, hosted by Zine UK.

Awards were won by individual business's across the dale, with tourism, entrepreneurs and outstanding individuals in mind. I am very pleased to report that two awards were won in Middleton-in-Teesdale, with the Village Bookshop winning best Community Project, which Middleton + won last year, which is very nice to keep in the Village!

The final award went to one of our own. Frances Easby, the charities Chair, collected the Special Achievement Award, for her hard work in many projects in the Village, with a brilliant introduction by Alan Bradley of Zine encompassing all the great things Frances does in the village. A thoroughly deserved award to our Chair, and a standing ovation to go with it.
